About the institute

The Fraunhofer Institute for Software and Systems Engineering ISST belongs to the Fraunhofer Gesellschaft for the Promotion of Applied Research. The Institute´s headquarters is in Berlin with a branch lab located in Dortmund. The Institute was founded in 1992 to consolidate Fraunhofer Gesellschaft computer science research in the field of information and communications technology.

Area of Operations and Goals

The Fraunhofer Institute for Software and Systems Engineering (ISST) provides consulting to companies and public institutions in the conception, implementation, deployment and operation of long-term information and communications infrastructures. Here, the Fraunhofer ISST places emphasis on the following master projects:

  • eTeaching & eLearning
  • Information Logistics
  • Continuous Software Engineering

Based on their competence in the seven departments and in the two application labs of »Coordination Management«, »Information Management«, »Integration Management«, »Learning Technology«, »Security Management«, »Software Engineering«, »Dependable Systems«, »IT for Medical Facilities (MIT)« and »Technical Due Diligence (TDD)«, the scientists of the ISST develop visions, strategies and concepts, implement systems and support the deployment and operation of solutions. We fulfill these tasks using the techniques of knowledge management, workflow management, distributed data storage, software and project management, as well as safety and security management.
