Low-temperature plasmas play a key role in a number of prospective and environmentally friendly technologies.
The special field of INP is to study these plasmas in their whole variety. Application research and the treatment of basic problems of the plasma generation, diagnostics and control under one umbrella enable synergetic effects.
The aim of INP is to open up new application fields of plasma technology by understanding the plasma physics.
Organization
The INP is an independent institute and a member of the Leibniz-Gemeinschaft, a federation of german research institutes. It is financed by the Federal Republic of Germany and the state Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
The work of the INP is performed in four scientific departments and in one department for administration and infrastructure.
Thematically and methodically specialised research laboratories are the core of the three experimental departments. Starting from these laboratories, projects in application research are organised. There are special application laboratories for verification of new plasma technologies.
Departments:
Equipment
The INP is equipped with a number of up-to date plasma systems, both for plasma analytics and for plasma processing.
The technical infrastructure in the building meets the requirements of the plasma processing and chemical technology. Flexible systems for clean-gas supply and safety systems meeting the standards of chemical laboratories are the basic equipment of all laboratories. Energy supply systems and the data network comply with the requirements of physical-technical laboratories. A clean-room is available for processes with special requirements.
All laboratories have equipment required for plasma generation and corresponding plasma analysis. Moreover, the institute works with a number of equipment which can be used, apart from special tasks, for other institutes and partly for third party purposes.
Support
The institute offers consulting concerning different plasma technologies, modelling and diagnostics of plasmas.
Application tests can be made in the application laboratories of the institute with regard to plasma technologies which are studied in the INP. At present they include:
Moreover, various analytical equipment of the institute is available for external services.
