Institut für Molekulare Biotechnologie

The work of the Institute for Molecular Biotechnology (Institut für Molekulare Biotechnologie, IMB) is interdisciplinary and it aims to promote biotechnological progress in the scientific-medical research field. The integrative approach of combining expertise from various scientific fields and focussing them on important scientific goals of biomedical interest provides an interdisciplinary base for innovative research fields with great potential for applications.

The research activities at the IMB are devoted to a better understanding of the quality and quantity of biological signals, the quality and quantity of their transmission processes, and diseases resulting from a change in these processes. Within this framework, the IMB focuses on the identification and characterization of genetic aberrations both at the molecular and the microscopic level, on biological processes that are responsible for intracellular mutagenic events, on the resulting aberrations of the structure and function of proteins that are involved in intracellular signal transduction processes, and on regulatory networks that are malfunctioning in important human diseases.
