Fuel Cell Network Nordrhein-Westfalen

Fuel cells have got the potential to change the conversion of energy in the stationary as well as in the mobile sector. Concerning the stationary sector the variety of applications covers small systems for private buildings as well as larger power plants for the mere production of electricity. All leading car manufacturers are working intensively on the development of electric vehicles powered by fuel cells.

The State of Nordrhein-Westfalen has been taking this development into account for a long time. Within the State6#146;s Initiative on Future Energies several fuel cell projects have been supported.

In order to intensify and to focus the activities on the field of fuel cell technology the State of Nordrhein-Westfalen (NRW) has founded the Kompetenz-Netzwerk Brennstoffzelle NRW (fuel cell network NRW) in April 2000.

The main objective of the network is to strengthen the production and research location NRW in this sector. Focuses of the network are on one hand the close collaboration between science and industry. On the other hand new competences shall be identified, developed and integrated into the network. This is of special relevance for those companies and reseach institutes which do not work on the field of fuel cells up to now but which have got the expertise to act as suppliers or integrators of fuel cell systems.
