Leibniz Institute for Neurobiology

The Leibniz Institute for Neurobiology is a Center for Learning and Memory Research investigating learning-induced plasticity in the brain from molecular processes to systemic function, cognition and behaviour. The IfN houses three departments, several independent temporary research groups and special laboratories working at different levels of analysis under the general theme of the institute "Brain mechanisms of Learning and Memory". Topics investigated include:

  • Molecular mechanisms of communication at central nervous synapses
  • Cellular mechanisms underlying juvenile learning processes
  • Functional organization of auditory/speech systems inhumans
  • Neuroprotection and neurorepair after ischemia
  • Cellular mechanisms of learning and memory in small neuronal networks
  • Neurogenetics: Functional role of cell recognition molecules in learning and memory
  • Pattern and speech recognition and learning in auditory cortex. Rehabilitation by cochlea prostheses
  • Development and plasticity of intracortical circuitry and functional maps
