The research center Forschungszentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (FZD) conducts basic and applied research in the fields of structure of matter, life sciences as well as environment and safety. The FZD consists of five institutes:
The five institutes of the FZD also run unique facilities, which are accessible to cooperation partners from research and industry, too.
AIM – Center for application of ion beams in materials research, European Ion Beam Centre at FZD
ROBL – Rossendorf beam line at the ESRF in Grenoble/ France: Synchrotron radiation laboratory for materials research and radiochemistry at the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF)
Radionuclide laboratory for materials investigation as well as metallographic and mechanic test laboratories
Radiation Source ELBE: superconducting electron accelerator for the production of intensive far-infrared-radiation by free electron lasers as well as x-rays, bremsstrahlung, positrons and neutrons
TOPFLOW – Transient Two Phase Flow Test Facility: the thermo-hydraulic test facility serves for the research of stationary and transient phenomena in two phase flows
Dresden High Magnetic Field Laboratory (under construction): laboratory for very high, pulsed magnetic fields
