The Swiss Academy of Engineering Sciences (SATW) - A portrait
The Swiss Academy of Engineering Sciences (SATW) is an apolitical non-profit organization. It promotes young talent in addition to education, research and development in engineering sciences in Switzerland.
Instructors, researchers and engineers of both sexes and in all fields of engineering science voluntarily contribute to the debate on current issues. They are aware that the prosperity of the Swiss economy and the solution of global problems depend on the implementation of new discoveries in engineering sciences. Individuals are elected to become members based upon their excellent scientific and professional qualifications and their role in the service to the Academy. The SATW currently boasts some 190 individual members.
As an umbrella organization for more than 60 member institutions and societies in the field of engineering sciences, the SATW represents the interests of some 60,000 technically-oriented people and serves as their communicative organ in society.
The SATW provides platforms for cooperation between any number of disciplines in engineering sciences. As part of CASS, the Council of the Swiss Scientific Academies, it promotes transdisciplinary cooperation between the engineering, natural, social and medical sciences, as well as the humanities.
In the context of Swiss research legislation and on the basis of a performance agreement, the Swiss federal government has entrusted the SATW with key responsibilities related to the promotion of research.
