miR-126 Confers Vascular Protection – MicroRNA-126 for atherosclerosis protection and tissue repair
Scientists at the RWTH Aachen have found that the isolated nucleic acids comprising the microRNA-126 (miR 126) nucleic acid sequence are useful in the prophylaxis or treatment of atherosclerosis as well as for the prophylaxis or treatment of tissue damages resulting in or due to various arterial based diseases resulting in or due to coronary heart disease, like myocardial infarction, stroke, peripheral artery disease, aneurysm formation but also disease related to endothelial and vascular dysfunction such as pulmonary hypertension, transplant arteriopathy or various forms of vasculitis.
The present invention relates also to endothelial derived apoptotic bodies useful in the prophylaxis or treatment of postnatal tissue repair, in particular useful in the prophylaxis or treatment of atherosclerosis.
